A solemn Flag Retirement Ceremony, hosted by VFW Post #4562 in collaboration with Cub Scout Pack and Troop 19, is set to take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm. The event will be held at the VFW hall located at 4700 E. 9th Street in Texarkana, Arkansas.

The ceremony is dedicated to the disposal of unserviceable United States Flags, a process that will be carried out with the utmost respect and dignity. Flags that have dutifully flown over Texarkana will be retired in a controlled and ceremonial burning, paying homage to the symbols that represent the nation’s history and values.

Volunteers from VFW Post #4562 are invited to contribute their time to ensure the success of this meaningful event. Kenneth Payne, the coordinator of the Flag Retirement Ceremony, encourages interested volunteers to contact him directly at 903.701.1678.

The collaboration between VFW Post #4562 and Cub Scout Pack and Troop 19 underscores the importance of community involvement and the passing down of patriotic values to younger generations. The ceremony aims to instill a sense of respect for the American flag and its significance among the youth, fostering a deeper connection to the nation’s history and principles.

Texarkana residents are urged to join in this communal event, standing together to honor the flags that have faithfully represented the United States. The Flag Retirement Ceremony not only symbolizes the proper disposal of worn-out flags but also serves as a powerful reminder of the unity and pride that define the Texarkana community.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
