The excitement is palpable as locals and visitors alike prepare to celebrate summer at the much-anticipated Downtown Live event in Texarkana. Set for tonight, Friday, July 12, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., the event promises an evening filled with art, music, and community spirit along Broad Street and beyond.
Darlene Taylor, a local muralist and artist, shared her enthusiasm: “I love working Downtown Live. It’s exciting to get to meet and show my work to so many people, especially to those that may not have seen me in person. I am able to have people to put a face to the name. I think that it is very important for artists to be able to showcase what they do. And the best part is that anyone can set up for free and share their art.”
Attendees can explore the shops, clubs, and restaurants downtown, enjoying performances from a lineup of talented local artists and musicians. Highlights include:
- Gunpowder Creek at Crystal Moon
- Special Reserve at The Stained Page
- Jay Kirgis at Alley Cat’s
- Bryan Gafford at Emmie P’s
- Ted & Allen at Southern Grace Boutique
- The Heavy Letdowns at Cafe Lucille
The Texarkana Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m., and The Lofts at the Grim will offer tours accompanied by acoustic guitarists Ryan and Leah Rainer in the lobby.
A special treat this month is the Silver Moon Children’s Theater’s presentation of “The Stinky Cheese Man” by SCT campers, with performances at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Additionally, there will be an open house tour of the new Airbnb at 214 West 3rd Street.
Many other businesses are staying open late or offering specials just for Downtown Live, including Prodigy Life, Bookhound Haven, The Wild Hare, Pecan Point, 1923 Banana Club, and Hopkins Icehouse. All will have something special for downtown revelers.
Will we see you there? Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to celebrate summer and support local talent in Texarkana’s vibrant downtown scene!
