A powerful tribute to those who served in Vietnam is coming to New Boston this September. The Moving Wall, a traveling, half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display in downtown New Boston from Thursday, September 4 through Monday, September 8, 2025.
The 252-foot-long display will be set up at The Midway, just east of the Pavilion along Route 82 in New Boston. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the memorial, reflect, and honor the more than 58,000 service members who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.
The Moving Wall was created in 1983 by Vietnam veteran John Devitt and a group of fellow veterans. After visiting the original memorial in Washington, D.C., Devitt realized that many Americans would never be able to travel to the nation’s capital to see it. Determined to share the experience, they set out to build a traveling replica.

After years of careful work to replicate the black granite sheen and engraved names, the first display was completed and exhibited in Tyler, Texas, in 1984. Like the original, the traveling wall allows visitors to make name rubbings of their loved ones from the etched panels.
Since its creation, The Moving Wall has traveled to communities across the United States, offering a space for remembrance, healing, and education. Its upcoming stop in New Boston will provide local residents and visitors alike the chance to connect with history and pay respects.
