Bowie County Sheriff Office Makes Drug Bust on Interstate 30

Bowie County Deputies make drug bust on I-30 near Hooks after a recent traffic stop.

On April 15, 2018 Deputy Shawn Martin stopped a red Ford truck for a traffic violation on Interstate 30 in the Hooks area. This driver of this truck was slow to bring the vehicle to stop. While this vehicle was slowly coming to a stop, Deputy Martin observed the passenger in the truck moving around excessively in the cab and throw something out of his window. Deputy Martin made contact with the driver of the vehicle after it finally came to a stop. The driver was asked to step out of her vehicle to speak with Deputy Martin. She complied and informed Deputy Martin that the passenger had thrown marijuana out of the window when he got behind them and turned on his emergency lights. Deputy Martin then made contact with passenger of this vehicle who was found to be Reco Renard Hawkins. As he was speaking with Hawkins, Deputy Martin could smell the odor of marijuana coming from this vehicle. Hawkins was asked to step out of the vehicle so Deputy Martin could search it. A blue bag containing two pipes used to smoke methamphetamine and two clear bags containing methamphetamine were found during this search in the passenger side floorboard. Hawkins claimed ownership of this blue bag and was arrested. While speaking with the driver of this vehicle she told Deputy Martin that Hawkins had additional drugs concealed in his pants. A complete search of Hawkins produced some marijuana and approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine he had hidden on his person. Hawkins was transported to the Bi-State Jail where he was booked in for Possession of a Controlled Substance Over Four Grams and Under 200 Grams and Possession of Marijuana Under Two Ounces. His bonds have been set at $25,000 and $2,500 respectively. Hawkins was still in custody at the time of this release.
