Entertainment in Texarkana the Weekend of January 27 & 28

Another weekend with lots to do in the Texarkana area, from quilting and chili to live music we have the weekly weekend rundown here. Thanks to our sponsors Crossties, Hobbs Manufactured Homes, and Tony Langford Roofing.

Of course with cold weather thoughts turn to a good Chili… no matter if you put beans in yours or not, if you have a good chili recipe try one of our local cook-offs. We have what we call the BIG 3, the Bridge City Cook-Off for the Texarkana Homeless Coalition, The Best Chili in Texarkana Cookoff on February 11, and the Veterans Chili Cookoff to benefit the Texarkana Veterans Council. Get information on all 3 of these competitions at Texarkana FYI.

On Friday, beginning at 5:00 pm the kick-off to the season is the “Bridge City Chili Cook-off” at 317 Hazel Street in downtown Texarkana. This benefits the Texarkana Homeless Coalition and the many resources devoted to helping the most vulnerable in our community.

On Saturday, January 28 at the PJ Ahern Home the Texarkana Museums System is hosting a gathering for the creation of the Texarkana Sesquicentennial Community Quilt. Bring a piece of fabric to chronicle a part of Texarkana’s history.

After more than 30 years with radio and TV stations, I decided to do my own thing by blogging. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 new granddaughters and other local projects.
