What is most commonly referred to as “the plane at Spring Lake Park” was a source for a lot of imaginary flight for me as a kid. FYI shared the history of that particular aircraft in a previous post but happened across some video footage of these aircraft in flight.
The Lockheed T-33 A Shooting Star was the workhorse fighter of its day first seeing action in Korea. The plane was commonly called “the ace makers” by the pilots that flew them. The aircraft began as the “P-80 Shooting Star” and made its debut in 1945. Eventually, the craft was redesigned to be a trainer as the T-33 and was very successful in its mission.
There are still quite a few of the aircraft in operation… and for those of us that grew up imagining flying that plane at Spring Lake Park, these videos are pretty cool.
