Gander Mountain Closing Texarkana Store as Part of Bankruptcy

Outdoor retailer Gander Mountain has filed for bankruptcy and will be closing 32 of their stores across the country, there are 10 stores in Texas on their closure list, including the store located in Texarkana, Texas.

According to Gander Mountain corporate offices, the process of closing the stores will begin within a couple of weeks. The company will be closing 32 underperforming stores total.

The other closing stores are listed below…

  • Alabama (4) – Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa
  • Georgia (3) – Augusta, McDonough, Snellville
  • Illinois (3) – Champaign, Algonquin, Springfield
  • Indiana (2) – Merrillville, Greenfield
  • Minnesota (3) Rogers, Mankato and Woodbury
  • New York (1) – New Hartford
  • North Carolina (2) – Raleigh, South Charlotte
  • Tennessee (1) – Chattanooga
  • Texas (10) – Houston, Killeen, Laredo, Lubbock, Round Rock, San Antonio, Sugar Land, Texarkana, Waco, West Houston
  • West Virginia (1) – Charleston
  • Wisconsin (2) – Eau Claire, Germantown

The company was founded in 1960 in St. Paul, Minnesota and does just over 1 billion in annual sales. The company stated in a press release that a decrease in in-store sales caused them to take a look at their business plan. To keep up with online shopping it was determined the company needed to restructure to have a more narrow focus and lower operating cost.

During the closure process, business hours at each location will remain the same. Employee pay, benefits and retirement plans will also remain in place.
