Member of the Texarkana College Board of Trustees has appointed longtime educator George Moore to fill the Place 7 At-Large vacancy created when Terry Taylor resigned from the position in April of 2017.
The Carry the Load Relay project’s East Coast team will be passing thru Texarkana as they make their way to meet the West Coast Team in Dallas Texas on Memorial Day Weekend. The public is invited to come out and participate as the crew makes their way through town.
An 18-wheeler hauling watermelons was making the turn onto St. Michael Drive from Richmond Road when it is believed the load shifted rolling the big rig over onto it’s side blocking traffic while officials cleaned up the mess.
Deputies with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call at 11:54 Sunday night in the 900 block of County Road 4106. There, deputies discovered one man dead from a gunshot wound.

The Miller County Health Unit will be hosting a “safeTALK Sucide Alertness Training” seminar on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. This program is designed to help individuals be more aware of signs, and intervene to help persons with suicidal thoughts. Must register for this program early as space is limited.
The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #278 will be hosting public services and the annual Memorial Day Walk on Monday, May 29 in Texarkana. The first service to be held at the Miller County Courthouse in downtown Texarkana, followed by the walk from there to the Korea/Vietnam Memorial site.
The Wynn-Price Plantation Society will be hosting a primitive Civil War Living History Camp June 2 – 4 at the Historic Wynn-Price Plantation grounds in Garland Arkansas. The camp will feature living history demonstrations and this year is the first that the reenactment community has been invited for demonstrations throughout the weekend.
The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana has received a $10,000 donation from Ronald McDonald Charities for the Kids’ College Programs. Kids’ College is a unique educational summer camp for students entering 1st through 6th grades.
The southwest leg of the Special Olympics Summer Games Torch Run will begin on Tuesday 23, 2017, at 9:00 am, starting from the Arkansas Wal-Mart parking lot, at 133 Arkansas Blvd. Texarkana Arkansas Officers will run over 18 miles before handing over the torch to the Hope Police Department.
