Major I-30 Construction Project in Texarkana to Begin July 2020

A major construction project to rebuild Interstate 30 through Texarkana Texas will begin in July and last approximately 4 years. This will completely rebuild I-30 from Kings Highway in Nash to Stateline Avenue.

    Press Release:

Major changes are coming to Interstate 30 through Texarkana according to plans approved in May by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be completely reconstructing almost six miles of the highway and widening it from four lanes to six lanes from 0.6 mile west of Farm to Market Road 989 (Kings Highway) in Nash to the Arkansas State Line,” said Paul Wong, area engineer for TxDOT in Texarkana. “This section of I-30 was first constructed about 60 years ago, so instead of just adding new traffic lanes, we felt it would be best to reconstruct the whole highway with all new materials.”

Traffic will be moved to one side while the other is being constructed, then moved to the new sections as the last sections are constructed. The proposed sections will have six 12-foot traffic lanes with 10-foot paved shoulders on the inside and outside. Concrete barriers will divide the opposing lanes of traffic with safety lighting on the barriers.

Longview Bridge and Road of Longview was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $88.9 million.

Work on the project should begin in July and take about four years to complete, Wong said.

After more than 40 years with commercial broadcasting, I decided to do my own thing by blogging, and taking "unconsultant" gigs. It affords me the ability to stay super involved in the community, but still, have plenty of time with my 3 granddaughters and other projects.
