Texarkana-area residents are saying goodbye to a piece of local history as the old Hwy 8 bridge over Wright Patman Lake near Maud, Texas, has been demolished. The bridge, one of the aging structures along State Highway 8 south of Maud, was replaced last summer by a newer, higher, and wider bridge designed to improve traffic flow and safety.

Texarkana residents will have the chance to take home a free tree seedling as the Keep Texarkana Beautiful group hosts its 11th annual Arbor Day event on Saturday, March 1st. The drive-thru giveaway will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.—or until all seedlings are gone—at the designated pick-up location near the Rotary Splash Pad entrance entering from Texarkana’s Mall Drive.
