The Texarkana Homeless Coalition (TXKHC) will hold its 3rd Annual Resource Day on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will take place on the lawn of Crossties Event Venue at 324 East Broad Street in Texarkana, AR.
The historic Big Boy No. 4014 steam locomotive is set to embark on its “Heartland of America Tour” starting Wednesday, August 28, from Cheyenne, Wyoming. This iconic train will journey through nine states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas, over the course of eight weeks.
The Silvermoon Theatre in downtown Texarkana has officially opened registration for its Fall Children’s Program, which runs from September 9 to November 11. The program is open to kids from kindergarten through 12th grade and offers a wide range of classes aimed at nurturing creativity, building confidence, and instilling a love for the stage.
Texarkana College Trustees received an update from Dr. Dixon Boyles, Vice President of Instruction, on the college’s efforts to broaden its prison education programs. This expansion comes on the heels of federal legislation under the FAFSA Simplification Act, which restored Pell Grant eligibility for incarcerated students in both federal and state prisons.
Earlier this afternoon, officers arrested 28-year-old Des Abner after a tense encounter on W. 38th Street. The incident began when officers noticed Abner walking in the roadway. They quickly recognized him and, recalling his history of evading police, approached him with caution.

Named the 2022 Texas CMA Band of the Year, the Chad Cooke Band has been making waves across the country with their contemporary country sound infused with a ’90s flair.
Runnin’ WJ Ranch is on the lookout for volunteers aged 14 and up to assist with their upcoming riding season, set to begin in early October. The ranch is seeking individuals who can help on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
