As the area reaches temperatures in the lower 40s today pipes that have frozen will begin to thaw and in many cases may burst at area homes and businesses. This could cause other issues like low water pressure in certain areas as crews work to make repairs.
As we look at temps reaching the lower 40s today and melting off a lot of the ice and snow, the U.S. National Weather Service in Shreveport reports that Texarkana was under 32 degrees Fahrenheit for a total duration of 113 hours.
On Sunday, February 14, Texarkana Arkansas Police were called to the Links Apartments for a 2-year-old child losing consciousness. Officer Marco Luna responded and recognized the signs of an opiate overdose and administered his Naloxone Overdose Kit that saved the child’s life.
On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, we ventured out to tour the area and share videos. This is record precipitation with some people sharing photos of depths up to 17″ in some areas. Thanks to Johnny Denali with Horn Hog Radio for driving.
So, we decided to do this at 4:30 am when the temperature was at 0° F. Take some boiling water, and toss the water into the freezing air for an awesome effect… it’s not often that you can do this in our neck of the woods.
Officials with Red River Army Depot have already called the day due to weather for Tuesday, February 16, 2021, and are looking at the week ahead. Employees will be notified daily as we are heading into another Winter Storm that should move into the area Tuesday night.
With Texarkana officially receiving 10 inches of snow and the remains of the first winter storm refreezing tonight as the region plunges into record low temperatures, the National Weather Service gives reports of what we are still facing this week.
With all of Texas under winter weather advisories of some sort, and the accumulation rising in our area, most local schools and businesses will be delayed if not completely canceled. We will update this list as more are added.
Winter weather is in our forecast, depending on where you look, the Texarkana area could see anywhere from 8 to 10 inches of accumulation and some of the coldest temperatures in decades over the next week. Here is how it starts, with a Winter Storm Watch, that will most likely become a warning.
