On Thursday, July 2, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered that starting at 12:01 pm Friday, July 3rd all Texans in counties with more than 20 positive COVID 19 cases are required to wear face masks in public that cover both their mouth and nose, with some exceptions.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s office reports that two correctional officers have been arrested for alleged use of excessive force and falsifying reports. They both voluntarily surrendered themselves and were arrested. Bond was set at $15,000.00 for each charge and both subjects had bonded out of jail.
The latest local numbers from Texarkana Health Authorities are that numbers continue to rise with Bowie County seeing a double-digit increase overnight. Bowie County reports a total of 295 positive COVID-19 cases, with 122 recoveries and 18 deaths. Cass County has a total of 47 cases with 38 recoveries and two deaths. Miller County reports 118 total cases with 97 recovered and 2 deaths.

With many events being cancelled for COVID 19, the 2020 Fouke Monster Festival is still hoping to take place on August 1, 2020. Originally scheduled for June, organizers are keeping close tabs on numbers, but expect to be able to follow all set guidelines and have a great time.

It is official, the 2020 Dragon Boat Festival for Texarkana is cancelled due to concerns with the spread of COVID 19. The event was originally scheduled for May and was hoping to reschedule but with numbers of illnesses continuing to rise, it has been decided to cancel for this year, and be back in 2021.

Now that “Sparks in the Park” has, well, fizzled out, the faith-led group “Texarkana United” is making an effort to save the patriotic event, however, the event must be moved to downtown Texarkana Arkansas and that opens up a whole other can of worms.
